Chipping Campden Recreation Ground - The Cotswolds

A great playground in the Cotswolds

Chipping Campden is a beautiful small market town in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire.

The playground at the recreation ground is a couple of minutes walk from the main High Street and is off the beaten track on the edge of a massive field.

It’s a great park and is one of the prettiest that we’ve visited so far.

The playground is set out really nicely. One area is for older children and the other area is for younger children.

The field is perfect for picnics. Ours had a running race and want to take their cricket set with them the next time we visit.

The only massive downside of the park is that there is hardly any parking. Parking is either on the roadside or on the High Street so please park sensibly. If you park on the roadside then please be mindful of residents and park responsibly if you visit.

The first bit of the park has a climbing net and one tyre swing. There should be more tyre swings but they’re broken.

There’s a cute little spiral walkway made from Cotswold stone and a willow arch to run through.

Then is what looks like the original park that has been added to. There’s a climbing frame with tube slide, monkey bars, a wobbly bridge and a net ladder.

Age Group

There are two areas to the park - one area is aimed at younger children and the other is aimed at slightly older children. I would say that it’s suitable for Under 12’s.

Equipment

  • Cargo Net Climbing Frame
  • Tyre swing
  • Spiral walkway
  • Willow arch
  • Climbing frame with a tube slide, monkey bars, a wobbly bridge and a net ladder.
  • Seesaw
  • Rockers
  • Circular swing
  • Toddler swings
  • Wobbly walk bridge
  • Slide
  • Wooden house

Across the other side of the park there is a basketball net with a circular swing and a spring rider.

Things to Watch Out For

  • The zip wire is broken
  • The tyre swings are missing other than one.
  • Keep an eye on littler ones on the climbing net.
  • The park is very open so if you have runners then you'll need to keep an extra eye on them

Toilets

There are no toilets so go prepared.

Picnic Area

There are a few picnic benches across from the park. The park is in a field so you could take a picnic blanket.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed on the grass area.

Parking

There is no designated parking. Parking is on the roadside just down the lane from the park or on the main High Street which is a couple of minutes walk away. Please park sensibly. Please be mindful of residents and park responsibly if you visit.

We had a great time. We only left because it started raining so we went to grab a coffee on the High Street.

Please be considerate when you're out for the day. If the bin is overflowing then take your rubbish home with you.

Walking directions from the High Street

Look out for The Noel Arms Hotel on the main High Street. To the left of it is an arched walk way which takes you through their car park. Walk all the way through the car park, past Cornerways Bed and Breakfast on the right and up the little hill. As the road bends round to the right, look out for the T Junction sign straight ahead of you. Follow that pathway up and the playground is just up there on the right hand side.
